Day 11: The Parable of the Hidden Treasure and the Pearl
Our anchor scripture for today is found in Matthew 6: 10 (NET), which reads: “may your kingdom come, may your will be done on earth as it is in heaven.”
Jesus asks us here to pray that the Kingdom of God and his will be done on earth as it is in heaven. In the same chapter, Jesus would later say that we should seek first the Kingdom of God above all else.
The fourth parable in Chapter 13 is the parable of the hidden treasure and the pearl and the lesson from the parable is that the Kingdom of God is a treasure that should be celebrated with joy and gladness. In the parable, the characters sold everything they had because of what they had found in the Kingdom of God. They did this willingly, not out of obligation, as they recognized the value of what they had in the Kingdom of God.
